Zusammenfassung des Kapitels 'The Force of Circumstance'

William Som. Maugham Für Caught between Cultures empfehlen wir dir sehr die offizielle Lektürenhilfe! Der britische Kolonialbeamte Guy lebt unverheiratet in Malaysia. Er fährt für einige Zeit nach England, um sich eine britische Ehegattin zu suchen. In einem Ferienort am Meer lernt er seine zukünftige Frau Doris, die in England als Sekretärin tätig ist,kennen und hält um ihre Hand an. Gemeinsam gehen sie zurück nach Malaysia, wo sich Doris zunächst in ihrer neuen Rolle als Ehefrau recht wohl fühlt und auch glücklich ist. Aber nach einiger Zeit erfährt sie, dass Guy vor ihrer Zeit über zehn Jahre lang ein Verhältnis mit einer einheimischen Malayin gehabt hat und mit ihr gemeinsam drei Kinder hat. Doris versucht mit Guys  Vergangenheit klarzukommen, doch schlussendlich verlässt sie ihn. Daraufhin holt dieser die ehemalige Partnerin zurück ins Haus.

    kann ich dir mit sicherheit sagen, ich da 3 jahre lang gewohnt ;) .

    Nicht ganz, unter Resolution nochmal. Aber ansonsten sehr gut, haben das gerade in der Schule behandelt.

    Im Großen und Ganzen sehr informativ, vielen danke dafür.
    Allerdings könntest du im Handlungsabschnitt “Malayan woman” noch überall verbessern und oppressor wird mit doppel “p” geschrieben. Rest ist einwandfrei :)

    naja muss anmerken es fehlt einiges, zum Beispiel ist Guy auch gay, jolly, charming usw usw leider meines erachtens nach nicht wirklich zu gebrauchen als alleinige Quelle aber trotzdem danke für die Mühe

    you missed some chracteristical facts concerning doris as being racist and, as tobi mentioned, guy’s happiness and his sense of humor. but i guess its way enough for some lazy students :) .     Es ist eine “malay woman” weil es zu der zeit noch nicht malaysia war, sie ist also keine “malayan woman” ;)
